That vision would become a reality as early as 2027 under the Lehigh Valley Green Transportation Infrastructure Project.
The LVPC April 1 applied for a $115 million grant through the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to fund the project as part of the EPA’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grant Program. The plan calls for developing green infrastructure in 522 acres of Pennsylvania Department of Transportation rights-of-way at 19 sites along some of the busiest Lehigh Valley roadways, including Routes 22, 33 and 378. Below is a copy of the grant application, renderings and appendices, as well as ways to support the region’s grant applications.
Program grants are expected to be announced in July 2024.

The Lehigh Valley Planning Commission needs a strong show of support for the Lehigh Valley Green Transportation Infrastructure Project. To sign the letter below, please add your name, email and zip code to the following form. We thank you for supporting the region!
I would like to formally show my support for the Lehigh Valley Green Transportation Infrastructure Project for its ability to protect the environment and improve quality of life, while giving drivers and visitors the unmistakable sense that they are entering a Green Region that is a national leader in Climate Action.
Funding the project will help the Lehigh Valley reduce emissions and particulate matter in places where they are highest, improving air quality regionwide, but in particular, in our equity communities. Especially important is the project’s ability to alleviate existing stormwater issues in our busiest interchanges and support hazard mitigation. At the same time, creating new pollination corridors for birds and insects will have the added benefit of beautifying the Lehigh Valley’s most-traveled corridors.
Approving the Lehigh Valley for a $115 million Climate Pollution Reduction Implementation Grant would be an investment in the future of one of Pennsylvania’s fastest-growing regions. As an individual committed to the Lehigh Valley success, I know first-hand what the impact of this project could be and urge you to consider this critical investment.
